So apparently, there has been some casualties in the event. According to fire officials, at least 154 people were killed in Seoul Saturday night when Halloween revelers smashed their way into an alleyway in the Itaewon area.
Officials stated that they received the first emergency call at 10.15 p.m. Nearly 100 victims were women, while more than 50 were men. Most of the victims were in their 20s or 30s. Another 149 were also injured when partygoers fell on the ground and were trampled.
What happen actually?
It seems like the stampede was caused by a panic that began when someone shouted that there was a fire. Over 1,000 people were injured in the stampede, and four people died. The Seoul Halloween Stampede was a tragedy that could have been avoided. The organizers of the event did not do enough to ensure the safety of the attendees.
Adding to the issue
- The venue was overcrowded, and there were not enough security guards to deal with the large crowd.
- The party-goers were not respectful of the space they were in and did not take into consideration the safety of others.
All these led to a dangerous situation that resulted in multiple injuries and even some fatalities. It is sad, but I guess it is a learning lesson for organizers.
